Does Location Matter?

Yes, yes it does. There are several factors that come into play when buying a home and we are going to hit on one of the big ones today, location.

First of all, you want to look at where you drive to the most. Is it your work, your extended family, friends, schools, church, etc?  Do you want a shorter commute to work that you drive to everyday and then have a little longer drive for the weekly extended family dinners?  You don’t want to start dreading the fact that you must drive 45 minutes to and from work daily just to be closer for those once-a-week dinners. What if the dinner host moves in one year?

Secondly, take a good long look around the property to see what surrounds it.  Is it next door to a commercial property?  If so, what type of establishment is it?  Maybe it’s a coffee shop that you would actually love going to daily.  Or maybe it’s an autobody shop you know will produce a lot of noise during normal business hours.  Is it a short distance to a school where those with kiddos would love to be close to?

Thirdly, sticking to the surroundings topic, where is the property compared to larger highways or interstates or hospitals and grocery stores?  Will it be easy for those visiting to access a highway when they finally decide to go home?  Just kidding, but really, maybe you want easy highway access to get to work or to your kiddo’s school across town.  You could possibly be like many of us, and you are notorious for forgetting things when grocery shopping and you want to be close to your favorite one.

Lastly, what is the condition of the homes close by?  Are the lawns taken care of, are the windows broken out on a lot of them?  Having your Realtor find out if the majority of the homes are owner occupied or rentals is not a bad idea.

A good Realtor will also point out the fact about how easily it will be for you to resell the home in the future.  We truly are looking out for your best interest throughout the process and this is just one of the ways we do so.
